Rite-Aid Shopping Guide

Rite-Aid Shopping Guide

Rite-Aid is another one of my favorite drugstores to shop at. They have a very detailed coupon policy that helps you not to be so stressed out when you are using coupons together with sales.

What is Rite-Aid?

  • Rite-Aid is a nationwide drugstore. They carry products such as food/grocery items, medicines, personal care items, health and beauty, and many other items.
  • The company website is www.riteaid.com and their corporate phone number is 1(717)761-2633, or 1(800)Rite-Aid(748-3243) if you have general questions.

Do they have a Coupon Policy?

  • Yes they do! They actually just updated their policy in May 2011. You can view the policy here.
  • Here are some of the highlights from the coupon policy:
    • Rite Aid gladly accepts the following coupon types as detailed in the coupon acceptance guidelines listed below: COUPON TYPES:
      • Manufacturer Coupons
        • Manufacturer coupons are found in newspapers, magazines and even affixed to products. The UPC on these coupons begins with a “5.”
      • Rite Aid Manufacturer Coupons
        • Rite Aid Manufacturer coupons generally appear in our weekly circular, on our website and are sent to customers via email. These coupons are labeled “manufacturer coupon” and have a UPC that begins with “49.”
      • Rite Aid Valuable Coupons
        • Rite Aid coupons are labeled “Valuable Coupon” and have a UPC that begins with “48.”
      • Internet/Print at Home coupons
        • Rite Aid will accept internet / print at home coupons up to the equivalent value of $5.00 off.
        • A Rite Aid coupon (with the Rite Aid logo) is NOT considered an internet coupon (even if printed off the internet) and is therefore not subject to the $5.00 maximum.
      • +UP Reward Coupons
        • +UP Reward coupons are special coupons earned by a customer in a prior purchase that can be used for any non-prescription purchase with a small number of exclusions that are listed on the +UP coupon.
        • Multiple +UP coupons can be used (subject to the printed exclusions) up to the amount of purchase before sales tax.
      • Buy One, Get One Free
        • Rite Aid accepts Buy One, Get One Free coupons, however only one coupon can be used for each pair of items purchased. A customer can use one “cents off” coupon in conjunction with the item they are purchasing on a Buy One Get One Free promotion (or with a Buy One Get One Free coupon), although the value of the cents off coupon cannot exceed the selling price of the item.
        • Buy One Get One Free coupons cannot be used in conjunction with a Buy One Get One Free promotion.
      • Total Purchase Coupons
        • Rite Aid may feature total purchase coupons which discount the total purchase amount based upon meeting specific requirements. For example, $5 off a $25 purchase price threshold coupon. These coupons are accepted under the following conditions:
          • The coupon is valid and in date; only one total purchase coupon per transaction.
          • Total purchase equals or exceeds $25 before tax (before any coupons are applied).
          • Coupons for individual items can also be used including another “48” coupon that is tied to an item in the transaction.
          • Provided the total of items purchased is equal to or greater than the purchase requirement, other coupons can be used in conjunction with the total purchase coupon.
    • ACCEPTANCE GUIDELINES:
    • General Guidelines:
      • Coupons must be valid and in date; Coupons cannot be exchanged for cash.
      • Register will validate coupon through scanning or keyed entry of the coupon UPC number.
      • In the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Rite Aid will accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item. Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is allowed.
      • When making a return for a product that had a coupon attached, Rite Aid cannot refund cash for the value of the coupon and cannot return the coupon that was used.
      • Rite Aid reserves the right to not accept any coupon where the validity or the coupon cannot be established.
    • Multiple Coupons
      • More than one coupon can be used on the purchase of a single item under the following conditions:
        • All coupons match the item being purchased.
        • The total of the coupons is equal to or less than the selling price of the item before sales tax.
      • No more than one “48” Rite Aid Valuable coupon, one “49” Rite Aid Manufacturer coupon, and one “5” Manufacturer coupon can be used on a single item. Rite Aid may accept up to 4 identical coupons for the same number of qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers within the store manager’s sole discretion.

*** Rite-Aid has the right to change the policy at anytime, (as they did recently in May 2011), so be sure to keep up to date on any changes in the policy.

Do they have a Rewards System?

Yes! They actually have quit a few ways that you can earn rewards/coupons.

    • +Up Rewards Program
      • This is a fairly new program that Rite-Aid has. It is similar to CVS’s ECBs and Walgreens RRs.
      • Must sign up for a Rite-Aid Wellness Card to receive all sale prices and +UP rewards.
      • Good for single/specific items (ex. get $3 UPR when you buy Tidy Cats Litter) or group of items ( ex. get $5 UPR when you buy $10 in Nabisco Crackers).
      • To get a UPR, you much make a qualifying purchase. These sales are in the store ads, and in-store on sale tags.
        • The sales will tell you how much the sale is and how much UPR you will receive for that specific item
      • The UPR prints on the bottom of your receipt and is good on your next in-store purchase.
        • Not good on items like prescriptions and other items listed on the UPR.
      • Only receive 1 UPR per transaction (can sometimes be more, but not set in stone on how many you can get, so just assume a limit of 1)
        • If there is a sale on Cat food for $2 with a $1 +UPR, and you buy 5 bags, you will only receive $2 UPR.
      • Usually can’t ROLL your UPR. This again, depends on the products, so it MAY work at times, but not always.
        • Rolling refers to when you buy a qualifying purchase, and receive a +UPR and try to buy another of the same product with the UPR you just received. The UPR for the second item won’t print.
      • Use as many UPR as you can as long as it is equal or under the total (no cash given back). The UPR is similar to gift cards.
        • If you have $4.99 total and a $5 UPR, it will not work, and per the policy, they will not adjust the price of your UPR.
      • Pay all applicable taxes
    • Single Check Rebate Program(SCR)
        • Traditionally rebates are something that is per item, and has to be sent off in the mail individually.
        • The SCRP  is similar in that it IS a rebate program, BUT you do not have to send off individual rebate information for each rebate (ex. $1 rebate, $5 rebate). You basically shop for a certain period of time and receive one check for the entire time period.
        • The good news? It’s not done through snail mail, but done online. You just keep your receipts from the allotted time period and from any qualifying purchases, and all the info gets entered online.
        • Go here to sign up for the SCRP. This is where you will enter your receipts.
      • How do you know what rebates are available?
        • SCR issues a monthly rebate book that details what rebates are available, and the rebates are also available online.
        • The rebates have a rebate number, amount of the rebate, and the valid time period of the rebate.
        • They rebates can be good anywhere from 1 week to more than the regulated period of the rebate period.
        • Because all rebate periods are different, keep all of your receipts.
        • This may also qualify you for multiple levels of rebates.
      • Rebates can be issued for single items, and multiple items that require multiple purchases.
      • Even though there are different types of rebates, you can still use coupons on ALL types of rebates, and the coupon amount WILL NOT get deducted from your rebate that you receive.
      • Can have multiple receipts, don’t have to be on one receipt.
      • This means that even when you get an item for free after coupons, if it qualifies for a rebate, you get the full rebate amount.
      • How to get your rebate
        • Keep your receipts!
          • Date of Purchase
          • Transaction #
          • Register #
          • Store #
        • Enter the above information here into the rebate system.
          • If you have just purchased a product that qualifies for a rebate in the same day, it won’t show up right away. It takes about 1-5 days to update.
            • In the meantime, you may see “Waiting for Information to Confirm your Rebate”.
        • Confirm all rebates.
        • Once the rebate period is over, you can request a single check for the entire amount of any rebates received during the rebate periods.
        • Receive checks in about 2-3 weeks.
      • Rainchecks
        • Rebates are still offered for items that are out of stock.
        • Offered during rebate period, and are good for 30 days from when it is issued.
          • If you purchase the item using a raincheck still within the rebate time period, then it will show up on your account online.
          • If you purchased the item outside of the rebate dates, then you will have to submit the rebates manually.
          • Must state “rebate” under the qualifying product to qualify.
      • Errors
        • If your rebate submission did not work, try and re-enter your rebate
        • If you are past the date to signup and you still have a rebate to enter or re-enter because of an error, submit your receipts manually to Special Services by fax machine 1 (800) 457-2243
    • Video Values
    • Video Values are videos through AdPerk that are put out by manufacturers and companies. They are short videos that after watched, you are able to receive coupons pertaining to that item or coupon for an amount off of your total purchase.
    • You can sign up for an account here.
    • These can be stacked with manufacturer coupons
    • Can only be used once per Wellness card.
  • General Information:
  • Stacking Coupons
    • You can stack manufacturer coupons with RA in-ad coupons or in-store coupons OR with Video Values
  • Do not accept competitor coupons
  • Do not need to have equal coupons and products like Walgreens!
  • May accept up to 4 identical coupons as long as there is sufficient stock, up to manager.

This is an excellent store to get many items for free or cheap, and is one of my favorite places.
