How to make Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

This is a simple, and easy homemade recipe for Dishwasher Detergent. This is a great option to begin saving on items that you can make yourself!

The ingredients are things that you would usually have in your own home, and if you don’t, they are very cheap and easy to find. (See Video Below)

Ingredients:

1/2 Cup Borax

1/2 Cup Baking Soda

1/4 Cup Salt (regular or Kosher)

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together and store in a sealed container. Use 1-2 Tablespoons per use in your Dishwasher, ( can adjust depending on how dirty the dishes are :) )

** Also, you can use Vinegar as a natural rinse agent in your rinse compartment of your Dishwasher.

* Store away from pets and children (as  you would normal cleaners)

I did a poll on my Facebook page a while back asking what homemade items people would like to see made, and Dishwashing Detergent made the top of the list :)

I already make homemade laundry detergent. I have just made my first batch of this homemade detergent and looking forward to using this going forward. Thanks so much! :)

  4. what if i want to make 8cups of the detergent? Im so eager to start using it :-)

    • Aw thanks, I hope you enjoy it! I think to make around 7 and 1/2 cups, you can times the recipe x 6.
Meaning use 3 Cups of Borax, 3 Cups of Baking Soda, and 1 and 1/2 Cups of Salt. This should get you the same recipe, but have about 7.5 Cups of it. Hope this helps!

  5. I tried the recipe and the glass and plastic come out clean, but the silverware looks a little dirty still. Have you had this problem at all? Maybe it is just my dishwasher. I am using Jetdry as a rinse aid, since I had it and want to use it up. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your question! You may want to try and add a little more salt, as it acts as an abrasive agent. If that doesn’t work, try adding some vinegar where you add your Jet Dry. Hope this helps!
